Borrower NPI Protection Options in Mercury Network

In order to protect borrower NPI (non-public information) Mercury offers options that will mask the borrower's name or loan number in notifications that are sent via email which includes both the borrower name and loan number. That's because the borrower name and loan number, when they appear together, constitute NPI that is to be protected according to the Graham-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and other regulations, as well as CoreLogic Corporate Standards. This feature gives you a simple way to maintain compliance for communications automatically sent from the platform.

You can choose which information will be masked using the Configuration tab below, and you can see what the masking looks like in notifications in the Examples tab.

Click here and we'll walk you through the settings in less than a minute.

Step-by-Step

Here's how to choose whether to mask borrower names or loan numbers in notification emails.

  1. Log in to Mercury Network.
  2. Click Account at the top.
  3. In the Security section, use the drop-down menu to select whether borrower names or loan numbers will be masked.
  4. Click Save near the top-left corner.

Examples of masking in emails

Borrower name

When the borrower name is masked, the name of the borrower will be replaced by the word Borrower in email notifications sent from the platform.

In addition, if the email subject line contains the borrower name and the email body contains the loan number, the email subject line will be replaced with the subject property's physical address.

Loan number

When the loan number is masked, part of the number will be replaced by X. The length of the loan number will determine the amount of masking. At most, the last 4 digits of the loan number will appear in the message.

These examples show how the loan number will appear depending on the length:

123456789 = XXXXX6789
12345678 = XXXX5678
1234567 = XXXX5678
123456 = XXXX56
12345 = XXXX5
1234 = XXXX
123 = XXXX
12 = XXXX
1 = XXXX
